Samacá and Dosquebradas receive Colombian road safety honors

Several Colombian municipalities have received recognition and secured funding for local development. During the National Congress of Transit and Mobility Authorities in Cartagena, Samacá was awarded the ‘SIMIT Héctor Taborda Vélez 2026’ National Excellence Award for Road Safety. Mayor Wilson Castiblanco Gil accepted the award, which recognizes the municipality’s commitment to decentralization, local governance, and road safety.

Dosquebradas also received national recognition for its road safety education strategy. The municipality’s program utilizes high school students in ‘School Patrols’ to act as educators for younger children, a pedagogical approach that has reached approximately 5,000 people.

Additionally, the administration of Samacá secured over 7.2 billion Colombian pesos for the remodeling of its Main Park. The project is funded almost entirely by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, which will provide 99.8% of the total investment, minimizing the impact on the local municipal budget.
