Colombian municipal road safety recognitions

Overview

The Colombian municipalities of Samacá and Dosquebradas received national recognition for their transit and mobility initiatives during the National Congress of Transit and Mobility Authorities in Cartagena.

Samacá was honored with the ‘SIMIT Héctor Taborda Vélez 2026’ National Excellence Award for Road Safety, a distinction presented by the Colombian Federation of Municipalities. The award recognizes the municipality’s commitment to local governance, autonomy, and road safety measures. The event included participation from the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) and the Superintendency of Transport.

Dosquebradas was also recognized for its road safety education strategy, which employs high school students in ‘School Patrols’ to educate younger children, a program that has reached approximately 5,000 people. Additionally, Samacá secured over 7.2 billion Colombian pesos for the remodeling of its Main Park, with nearly all funding provided by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism.
