Samajwadi Party MPs travel to Rampur to block demolition of Jauhar University buildings

On July 25, the Samajwadi Party (SP) announced that a nine‑member delegation of its Members of Parliament would visit Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. The team, acting on the direction of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, includes MPs Ruchi Veera, Iqra Hasan, Harendra Singh Malik, Rajiv Rai, Mohibullah Nadvi, Neeraj Maurya and Ziaur Rahman Barq.

The delegation aims to assess the administration’s demolition notice against Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. The Rampur Development Authority has ordered the removal of 38 of the university’s 40 buildings, saying they were constructed without approved plans. The university was given 15 days to comply, after which the district magistrate may order bulldozer demolition.

SP members warned the administration not to carry out any demolition until legal and administrative issues are fully resolved, describing the move as politically motivated and harmful to poor, Dalit and minority students. The visit follows an earlier trip by a group of MLAs led by opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey.
