Puerto Rico energy: LUMA maintenance and fuel cost adjustments

LUMA Energy has scheduled maintenance, repairs, and modernization work across 15 municipalities in Puerto Rico, which may cause temporary power outages lasting up to 12 hours. The tasks include replacing electrical lines, upgrading equipment, removing dangerous vegetation, and modernizing substations to increase grid resilience.

Separately, the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (NEPR) has approved a fuel purchase cost adjustment for the October to December 2026 quarter. The approved rate of 17.3576 cents per kWh is lower than the 18.0736 cents per kWh requested by LUMA. The Bureau excluded $17.6 million in costs related to natural gas supply deficiencies and uncollectible accounts from the adjustment. Additionally, the Bureau has ordered an audit regarding costs and payments involving New Fortress Energy (NFE) and is investigating gas quantities requested by Genera.
