Turkey weather alerts: Heavy rain and cold wave expected
Turkey is experiencing widespread weather shifts, characterized by heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and an incoming cold wave from Russia. The Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü has issued warnings for various regions, including Marmara, the Aegean, and the Black Sea, regarding potential flooding, lightning, and transport disruptions.
In Istanbul, the municipality (İBB) has placed over 7,000 personnel and 2,000 vehicles on alert due to forecasted heavy precipitation that could reach 100 kg/m2. Temperatures in the city and the Western Black Sea region are expected to drop significantly, with some areas experiencing a brief period of winter-like conditions.
In the Black Sea region, specifically Rize, experts have warned that changing precipitation patterns are leading to more intense, short-duration rainfall, increasing the risk of floods and landslides. Meanwhile, in other provinces like Çanakkale, Yalova, and Samsun, heavy rain has already impacted daily life and traffic. In the Aegean region, Muğla and surrounding areas are expecting localized thunderstorms, while parts of Central Anatolia and the Aegean are also bracing for temperature drops and rain.
