Samsung announces regional finalists for Solve for Tomorrow 2026

Samsung has announced the finalists for its Solve for Tomorrow 2026 program, a corporate citizenship initiative that encourages public school students to develop technological solutions for social challenges.

In the regional round, a team from the Politécnico Escuela Hogar del Niño in La Romana, Dominican Republic, will compete in Panama on November 18. Their project, “PropioPasos,” features a low-cost EMG headband designed to translate subtle muscle contractions from the brow or jaw into synthesized voice messages and home automation commands. The device aims to provide autonomy and communication tools for students with severe motor impairments.

In Peru, the program saw record participation with 2,186 projects submitted by over 6,400 students. Five finalist teams from regions including Apurímac, Piura, Lima, Huancavelica, and Puno were selected. One notable project from Apurímac, titled “Illapa Uyariq,” utilizes a network of sensors and microcontrollers to create an early warning system for lightning strikes to protect high-altitude communities.
