Samsung Biologics to raise 3 trillion won for PolyPeptide Group acquisition
Samsung Biologics has announced a rights offering to raise approximately 3.009 trillion won to fund its long-term growth strategy. The company plans to allocate roughly 2.71 trillion won toward the acquisition of the Swiss-based PolyPeptide Group, a move intended to expand its portfolio into peptide-based therapeutics, including those for obesity and diabetes. This acquisition is noted as one of the largest in the South Korean biopharmaceutical industry.
The remaining funds, approximately 295 billion won, will be used for the expansion of the company’s second Bio Campus in Songdo, Incheon. This expansion aims to increase total antibody manufacturing capacity to 1.385 million liters through the sequential completion of Plants 6, 7, and 8.
The rights offering will involve issuing 2.27 million new common shares at a price of 1.322 million won per share, representing a 15% discount. The offering will be conducted via shareholder allocation followed by a general public offering of unsubscribed shares. The company stated that the 4.9% increase in share count is designed to minimize shareholder dilution while securing necessary capital for global expansion.
