Samsung C&T partners with US firm SMDP for Mokdong reconstruction

Major South Korean construction companies are intensifying competition for reconstruction projects in the Mokdong area of Seoul. Samsung C&T has announced a collaboration with the US-based architectural firm SMDP to bid for the Mokdong Complex 13 reconstruction project. The project aims to replace 2,280 existing units with 3,852 new units across buildings up to 49 stories high, with an estimated construction cost of approximately 2.3763 trillion KRW.

Other industry players are also active in the region. Daewoo E&C is partnering with US firm STOSS for the Sinwol Si-young Apartment reconstruction, proposing a landscape concept featuring eight themed gardens. Additionally, GS Engineering & Construction is launching subscriptions for the Mokdong Yunseul Xi residential complex, while POSCO E&C is introducing its 'The Sharp' brand to Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province.

The broader Mokdong reconstruction initiative, which encompasses 14 complexes, is expected to transform the area into a residential hub of approximately 47,000 units, with a total estimated project value of 30 trillion KRW.
