Samsung Electronics establishes heat pump boiler production line in Gwangju

Samsung Electronics has established a new production line for its Eco Heating System (EHS) heat pump boilers at its Gwangju plant in South Korea. The 2,132-square-meter facility began trial production on August 19 and is scheduled to commence full-scale mass production in late September.

With an annual capacity exceeding 100,000 units, the production is intended entirely for the South Korean market. Samsung is the first heat pump manufacturer participating in the government’s heating electrification program to reshore production from overseas to a domestic facility. The company plans to increase the domestic sourcing of key components and manufacturing processes to support local suppliers and the regional economy.

The EHS heat pump boilers utilize electricity and heat from outdoor air to provide heating and hot water. The system is designed for high efficiency, capable of generating nearly five times the thermal energy of the electricity consumed, with a seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of 4.9 at a 35-degree Celsius water outlet temperature. This technology offers a lower-carbon alternative to fossil-fuel-based boilers and can be integrated with residential renewable energy sources like solar power.

Samsung is currently conducting field tests across various Korean regions, including Yangpyeong, Chungju, and Namhae, to verify performance in different residential environments. The company is also participating in electrification projects in Jeju Island and is collaborating with Samsung C&T to research applications for apartment complexes.
