Samsung Electronics launches apartment heat‑pump trial in South Korea
Samsung Electronics has installed its high‑efficiency heat‑pump system “EHS All‑in‑One” at the Samsung C&T Residential Performance Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi‑do, starting on July 27, 2026. The trial places the unit in an environment that replicates a typical Korean apartment to evaluate heating, cooling, hot‑water performance, electricity consumption, noise levels and overall energy savings compared with conventional gas boilers.
The system combines air‑to‑air (A2A) cooling with air‑to‑water (A2W) heating and hot‑water generation using a single outdoor unit, recovers waste heat from cooling for water heating, and employs R32 refrigerant with a roughly 68 % lower global‑warming potential than the previously used R410A. Data gathered will be used to support wider deployment of heat‑pump technology in multi‑family housing and to advance South Korea’s building‑sector carbon‑neutral goals.
Im Seong‑taek, vice‑president of Samsung Electronics’ DA Business Division, said, “This trial is not only to confirm product performance but also to verify whether heat pumps can truly replace gas boilers in real apartment environments.”
