Samsung heat‑pump rollout in South Korea

Overview

Samsung Electronics began a series of demonstrations of its electric heat‑pump technology in South Korea. On 27 July 2026 the company installed its high‑efficiency “EHS All‑in‑One” system at the Samsung C&T Residential Performance Research Institute in Yongin to mimic a typical Korean apartment. The trial will assess heating, cooling, hot‑water output, electricity use, noise and overall energy savings against conventional gas boilers, and to verify whether heat pumps can replace fossil‑fuel heating in multi‑family housing.

A few days later, on 30 July 2026, Samsung installed an EHS heat‑pump boiler at a single‑family home in Aewol, Jeju, and held a plaque ceremony. The unit draws ambient air and electricity to provide indoor heating and domestic hot water, delivering water up to 70 °C even at –15 °C outdoors. Samsung reported a seasonal performance coefficient of 4.9 at 35 °C output and 3.78 at 55 °C, indicating the system produces roughly five times more heat energy than the electricity it consumes. The product features anti‑freeze protections and can be monitored via a touch display or the SmartThings app.

Both deployments are part of Samsung’s broader push to replace gas‑based boilers with electric heat‑pump solutions, supporting South Korea’s building‑sector carbon‑neutral targets.
