Samsung ends support for AR apps and older Galaxy foldable devices

Samsung is discontinuing support for several software products and older hardware devices. By December 31, the company will stop providing updates and downloads for its augmented reality applications, Samsung Quick Measure and AR Doodle. While Quick Measure allowed users to measure distances and dimensions using DepthVision cameras, AR Doodle enabled users to create floating digital drawings through the camera lens. Some users have already reported that these apps are becoming invisible in the Galaxy Store on newer One UI versions.

Additionally, Samsung has ended software support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldable smartphones. After five years on the market, these 2021 models will no longer receive Android OS updates or critical security patches. While the devices remain functional, the lack of security updates may increase vulnerability to digital attacks, particularly for users handling sensitive data such as banking or personal communications. This marks a shift in Samsung's support lifecycle, as the company has recently extended update promises for newer premium models to up to seven years.
