Samsung Galaxy updates and foldable launches
Overview
In late July 2026, Samsung began rolling out the July security patch for its Galaxy Tab S10 series, fixing 57 vulnerabilities. An August update for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra was also signalled, targeting heat management on devices with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. On 4 August, Samsung announced the official launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 for 7 August, featuring the Gemini Notebook AI suite, a 7.6-inch 4:3 AMOLED display with 3,000 nits peak brightness, and integrated Google-Gemini tools. The same day, MediaMarkt listed the HW-Q935GF/ZG soundbar at a 50% discount. Samsung also confirmed that the rugged XCover 6 Pro will move to quarterly security updates, entering its final support phase. The same day, Samsung also unveiled three new foldables: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the higher-spec Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the compact Z Flip 8. By 18 August, Samsung began global distribution of August 2026 security updates, addressing 56 vulnerabilities, including 8 classified as critical and 30 as high-risk. The rollout includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy XCover 7, with the latter appearing in markets such as Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Samsung is also distributing an 81 MB Google Play System Update (GPSU) and updates for Private Compute Services for One UI 8.5 devices. By 21 August, reports indicated delays in the August security rollout for many Galaxy users. Samsung attributed these delays to the ongoing development of One UI 9 and Android 17, noting that regular OS upgrades can impact security patch schedules. Additionally, work on a specific update for the Galaxy S26 Ultra to improve screen color reproduction may be contributing to slower deployment across the S26 series.
