Samsung Galaxy S24 slated for OS and security updates through 2030
Apple recently released iOS security patches that cover devices as old as the iPhone 5s, showing that extended software support is possible for legacy phones. In contrast, most Android manufacturers provide only one or two major OS upgrades and limited security updates, especially on low‑price models. Enthusiasts mitigate this gap by installing custom ROMs that bring newer Android versions to older hardware.
Samsung announced that its newest flagship, the Galaxy S24, will receive seven years of operating‑system upgrades and security patches, extending support until at least 2030. The company’s recent policy shift applies to devices launched in 2024 and later, offering a much longer lifespan than many competing Android phones, whose support often ends after a few years.
