Samsung to discontinue Samsung News service in 2026

Samsung has announced that it will discontinue its Samsung News service for Galaxy device users on December 21, 2026. The decision will affect the dedicated app as well as news widgets located on the device home screens.

Following the shutdown, Samsung News will no longer publish new content, and the home screen content panel will lose the option to toggle between Samsung News and Google Discover. Google Discover is expected to remain available on supported Galaxy models.

Regarding user data, Samsung stated that personal information, user profiles, and personalization data used to determine content preferences will be deleted. Any records required to be kept due to legal regulations will be permanently removed once the mandatory retention periods have expired.

Samsung News was originally launched in 2023 to replace Samsung Free. As of now, the company has not announced a specific alternative service to replace the news functionality.
