Samsung to reduce QD television production by up to 80%

Samsung is planning a significant reduction in the production of its quantum dot (QD) televisions. According to industry reports from Electronic Times, production of these models is expected to drop from approximately 10 million units in 2025 to between 2 and 3 million units in 2026, representing a decline of 70 to 80 percent.

The strategic shift is driven by intense price competition from Chinese manufacturers, specifically TCL and Hisense, which offer similar technologies at more competitive price points. To address this, Samsung is reportedly moving away from lower-priced QD models to focus on higher-margin technologies, such as Mini LED, where the company can better justify premium pricing.

Despite this reduction in specific product lines, Samsung remains a global leader in the television market.
