Samsung to replace OneDrive integration with Google Photos

Samsung is transitioning its mobile gallery synchronization service from Microsoft OneDrive to Google Photos. The current integration with OneDrive is scheduled to end on September 30, 2026.

A new feature called ‘Gallery Cloud Sync’ will allow compatible Samsung Galaxy users running Android 13 or later to synchronize photos and videos directly from the Samsung Gallery app to their Google accounts. This allows users to back up content without manually opening the Google Photos app.

There are technical distinctions between this new method and traditional Google Photos backups. Some features, such as specific memories, live albums, or certain search functions, may not be available for content synced via the Samsung Gallery. Additionally, the Samsung Gallery will not automatically display existing libraries already stored in Google Photos from other devices.

Existing content stored in OneDrive will remain accessible through the Microsoft service; however, the direct synchronization link between the Samsung Gallery and OneDrive will be removed. The rollout is being deployed gradually across different models, countries, and operators. Note that work, educational, or supervised accounts are currently not compatible with this new synchronization feature.
