Samsung to shut down Samsung News service on Galaxy devices

Samsung has announced the discontinuation of its Samsung News service, scheduled to shut down on December 21, 2026, at 00:00 UTC. The shutdown will affect the Samsung News app, its dedicated widget, and the news panel located on the leftmost home screen of Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Discontinuation notices have already appeared within the app in India and South Korea. While official confirmation for other global markets has not yet been released, the service is expected to be withdrawn internationally. Following the shutdown, Samsung plans to delete all user profiles, preferences, and collected personal information, unless local regulations mandate data retention for a specific period.

Samsung News was launched in April 2023 as an evolution of previous services including Samsung Free, Samsung Daily, and Bixby Home. The company has not officially announced a replacement, though it is anticipated that the news panel may transition to Google Discover, which is already an available option for Galaxy users.
