Samsung Health updates sleep and running coaching features

Samsung Electronics has announced a significant update to its Samsung Health app, focusing on enhancing sleep and running coaching capabilities. A major change to the Sleep Coaching feature lowers the barrier to entry; users now only need three days of sleep data recorded within the last two weeks to begin a program, a reduction from the previous requirement of seven days within a month.

The updated Sleep Coaching utilizes survey responses regarding sleep regularity, caffeine and alcohol intake, and sleep interruptions to assign a personalized ‘Sleep Animal’ symbol. This initiates a four- to eight-week tailored program that dynamically adapts weekly recommendations based on evolving sleep patterns. A new pentagon-shaped ‘Sleep Balance’ graph has also been introduced to visualize five key metrics: sleep time, regularity, awake time during the night, sleep satisfaction, and an Energy Score.

For athletes, the Running Coach feature has been expanded from 10 to 12 training levels to better support intermediate and advanced runners. The update also strengthens the partnership with Strava, allowing users to import Strava routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into the Samsung Health interface. Additionally, new templates have been added to facilitate sharing workout data on social media platforms.
