Samsung updates Smart Switch to simplify iPhone to Galaxy transitions
Samsung has updated its Smart Switch application with the introduction of One UI 9, specifically targeting a smoother transition for users moving from iOS to Galaxy devices. A major change in the new workflow is that users no longer need to install the Smart Switch app on their iPhone; instead, the new Galaxy device generates a QR code that can be scanned with the iPhone camera to initiate a wireless data transfer.
The updated version expands the scope of transferable data from iOS devices. In addition to standard items like photos, contacts, messages, calendars, and apps, the tool now supports the migration of passwords, passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, and eSIM information.
This update is currently available on the eighth-generation Galaxy Z series, including the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8. Samsung is also enhancing cross-platform interoperability by allowing Quick Share to work with Apple AirDrop on devices running One UI 9 or One UI 8.5. Further updates are expected for the Galaxy S26 series and various A-series models.
