Samsung data transfer feature upgrades

Overview

In late July 2026, Samsung broadened Quick Share to move files up to 10 GB across Android devices, Windows PCs, and tablets via Wi‑Fi Direct or the internet, adding multi‑recipient links and privacy controls.

A week later, a Smart Switch update introduced fully wireless iOS‑to‑Galaxy migration: users scan a QR code shown on a new Galaxy phone during setup, transferring photos, videos, contacts, messages, and app data without installing any software on the iPhone. This update, pre‑installed on the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8, also deepens Quick Share integration with Apple AirDrop for bidirectional sharing.

Early August, Samsung highlighted that Smart Switch works alongside Android’s built‑in migration tools, supporting QR‑code, Wi‑Fi, or cable transfers of apps, settings, media, and personal data during device setup.

On 8 August, the Quick Share service was expanded to allow Galaxy users to share compatible items stored in Samsung Wallet—such as event tickets and flight boarding passes—directly with other compatible Samsung devices. This update included bug fixes and stability improvements via a phased rollout.

Following the One UI 9 software rollout, Samsung further updated Smart Switch to enhance transitions for users moving from iOS to the latest Galaxy Z series. The expanded transfer capabilities now include passwords, passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, and eSIM information. While currently limited to the latest Z series, beta testing for the update is underway for the Galaxy S26 and various A-series devices.
