Samsung updates Smart Switch for wireless iOS‑to‑Galaxy data transfer
Samsung has released an update to its free Smart Switch application that lets users move photos, videos, contacts, messages, app data and device settings from iOS phones to new Galaxy smartphones without cables. The new version enables a fully wireless transfer by scanning a QR code displayed on the Galaxy during setup, eliminating the need to install Smart Switch on the iPhone.
The update also adds tighter integration between Quick Share and Apple AirDrop, allowing bidirectional file sharing between iOS and Galaxy devices. It arrives alongside Samsung’s latest foldable models – the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 – which ship with Smart Switch pre‑installed.
The process works during the initial configuration of the Galaxy: the user selects the iOS‑to‑Galaxy option, scans the QR code with the iPhone camera, confirms the transfer, and chooses which content categories to copy. All transferred data remains on the original iPhone.
