SAMU prepares critical patient transfers to Marga Marga Provincial Hospital

The SAMU (Servicio de Atención Médica de Urgencia) is preparing to transfer critical patients from the Quilpué Hospital to the new Hospital Provincial Marga Marga in Chile. To maintain high standards of care during the transition, SAMU will utilize advanced ambulances equipped with intensive care unit (ICU) capabilities, including mechanical ventilation, infusion pumps, and vasoactive drugs.

Dr. Jorge del Campo, Director of SAMU, stated that medical interventionists will be available to ensure patients receive the same level of treatment and protection during transport as they would in an ICU. Approximately 10 high-complexity patients currently in the Quilpué Hospital's ICU and UTI units will require these specialized transfers. To manage the complexity of the operation, the Servicio de Salud Viña del Mar Quillota Petorca will request support from other SAMU services, including Samu Metropolitano.
