San Antonio power restoration expected by Tuesday following severe storms

CPS Energy expects to restore power to the final customers affected by Friday night’s severe storms in San Antonio by Tuesday night. As of Monday, approximately 2,000 customers remained without electricity, a significant decrease from the peak of 111,000 outages following the storm.

Interim CEO Frank Almaraz noted that the remaining outages are among the most difficult to repair due to downed wires and utility poles located in areas blocked by debris and fallen trees. The storm caused extensive damage to trees, homes, and infrastructure, particularly in a corridor stretching from the Northeast Side toward the Southwest Side. City officials reported that at least 377 trees were damaged.

In response to the weather event, San Antonio city departments have expanded cleanup and outreach efforts, including the temporary suspension of bulky-item collection to prioritize storm debris removal. While residents have expressed frustration online regarding the utility's response time, Almaraz defended the team's progress and the company's long-term investments in infrastructure.
