San Antonio storm power outage response

Overview

Following severe storms in late August, CPS Energy worked to restore power to San Antonio residents. At the peak of the outages, approximately 111,000 customers were without electricity. By the following Monday, outages had decreased to roughly 2,000, with restoration expected to be complete by Tuesday night. Interim CEO Frank Almaraz attributed delays in the final repairs to difficult conditions caused by debris and fallen trees.

In the aftermath, members of the San Antonio City Council have demanded meetings with CPS Energy officials to review the utility’s response timeline and decision-making process. The council seeks to improve the city’s energy resilience following the event that left thousands without power for several days.
