San Carlos, Colombia Residents Demand Reliable Electricity Amid Transformer Shortage

Residents of the Arroyo Grande Abajo neighborhood in San Carlos, Córdoba, have lodged a public complaint over chronic low‑voltage electricity. About 60 homes rely on a single 25 kVA transformer, which they say cannot meet the area's demand, forcing families to switch off appliances such as refrigerators or washing machines to operate a blender or other device.

The community reports that voltage fluctuations jeopardise household appliances, prompting some households to purchase voltage regulators at their own expense. They have asked the utility company Afinia to conduct a technical inspection and consider installing a second transformer to better segment the network and distribute load more evenly, seeking a stable and safe power supply rather than special treatment.
