San Cipirello commemorates Carabinieri killed by Giuliano gang
A ceremony was held in San Cipirello to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the deaths of Carabinieri Giovanni Calabrese and Giuseppe Fiorenza. The two officers were awarded the Gold Medal for Valor after being killed on August 25, 1949, during an assault on the anti-banditism barracks by members of the Giuliano gang.
The event was attended by San Cipirello Mayor Vito Cannella, Colonel Giulio Modesti of the Monreale Carabinieri Group, and representatives from the National Carabinieri Association. During the ceremony, a laurel wreath was laid near the commemorative plaque dedicated to the fallen officers. The citation for their Gold Medal was read aloud, highlighting their exceptional courage and ultimate sacrifice in facing bandits who attacked the station with hand grenades and machine-gun fire.
