San Ferdinando Tendopoli Demolished in Calabria, Ending Decade-Long Settlement

Early this morning, demolition crews began dismantling the long‑standing tendopoli in San Ferdinando, Calabria, a settlement that had housed hundreds of migrant agricultural workers for over ten years. The operation was overseen by regional welfare assessor Pasqualina Straface, state under‑secretary Alfredo Mantovano, prefect Fabio Ciciliano, and regional president Roberto Occhiuto, reflecting a coordinated effort under the Caivano‑bis decree.

More than one hundred regular foreign workers were transferred to newly prepared housing in Rosarno, while the most vulnerable residents were placed in social‑care facilities. Mayor Gianluca Gaetano hailed the clearance as a historic moment for the town and announced a further €10 million investment for school buildings, public green spaces, and cultural venues in San Ferdinando.

The demolition marks a shift toward regularised employment, improved sanitary conditions and reinforced public order in the Piana di Gioia Tauro area.
