San Fernando authorities arrest woman for killing newborn son
Authorities in San Fernando, Venezuela, have arrested 38-year-old Yessica Marcelino Ramos Villanueva for the death of her two-day-old son. The arrest took place at the Hospital Doctor Pablo Acosta Ortiz.
According to Douglas Rico, director of the CICPC, the woman, a member of the Pumé indigenous group, attempted to kill the newborn twice while in the recovery area. On both occasions, medical staff intervened and saved the infant. However, during a third attempt while the baby was being fed, Ramos Villanueva caused the child's death through mechanical asphyxia and airway suffocation. Investigations suggest the motive was that she did not want the child. The suspect has been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry in Apure state.
