San Francisco 49ers accused of ignoring fraud warnings

Gwen Herndon, a woman claiming to be a victim of Daejon Love, alleges she warned the San Francisco 49ers about his fraudulent activities eight months before his arrest. According to Herndon, she submitted a complaint through the team’s website on December 20, 2025, specifically naming Love and stating that a federal investigation was underway regarding a man pretending to be a 49ers player.

In her message, Herndon expressed concern that Love was stealing money from women and damaging the franchise’s reputation. While the 49ers previously stated they were unaware of Love until the FBI contacted them in August 2026, Herndon claims the team did respond to her December inquiry. The team’s response reportedly stated they take reports of misrepresentation seriously but could not comment on specific individuals due to legal reasons.

Love is accused of using the identity of a 49ers player as part of an elaborate romance and investment fraud scheme. Herndon noted that she ceased communication with the organization after receiving their initial response because she was disappointed the team did not openly condemn Love’s actions.
