San Huanggang Port undergoes large-scale emergency and anti-terrorism drills

The Hong Kong government recently conducted its second large-scale drill at the upcoming San Huanggang Port to test emergency response, crowd management, and cross-departmental coordination. The exercise involved over 5,000 civil servants from approximately 30 departments and bureaus. Key components of the drill included simulating high-pressure passenger surges, managing public transport interchanges, handling suspected infectious disease cases, and responding to a simulated terrorist shooting and a major traffic accident.

The new port will implement a “one place, two inspections” model, utilizing joint inspection and cooperative verification to significantly reduce transit times. The inspection building features a nine-story design, including a passenger departure hall on the 5th floor and an arrival hall on the 4th floor. The facility is equipped with 134 automated cooperative inspection lanes and 68 manual counters, allowing for facial recognition and biometric verification that can reduce clearance times to approximately five minutes.

For travelers, the facility provides seamless connectivity to Shenzhen Metro Line 7 via the B2 level. Drivers can also utilize 28 “five-in-one” lanes designed for integrated vehicle inspections. The official opening date will be determined once both Hong Kong and Shenzhen authorities confirm that all safety and operational conditions are met.
