Honduras water reservoirs show uneven recovery amid heavy rains

Heavy rains in Honduras have led to mixed results for the country's water security. In the Cortés department, rainfall affected 246 families, causing flooding, evacuations, and damage to commercial establishments.

In Tegucigalpa, the Los Laureles reservoir has shown significant recovery, reaching 50.91% capacity and moving from high to medium water risk. However, authorities from the Municipal Unit of Drinking Water and Sanitation (UMAPS) warn that the water crisis is not over. The La Concepción reservoir remains in a critical state, holding only 28.54% capacity.

Due to the disparity between the two reservoirs, the current water rationing schedule will remain in place. Most sectors in the capital will continue to receive water every 12 days, while areas served by the Picacho treatment plant will receive service every seven days. Officials are monitoring weather patterns and considering a potential water transfer from Los Laureles to La Concepción if levels continue to rise.
