San José Mayor accuses Costa Rican President of blocking municipal projects

San José Mayor Diego Miranda has accused the Costa Rican government of obstructing municipal projects and has challenged President Laura Fernández to prove otherwise. In a video released on August 27, Miranda cited several specific grievances, including alleged lack of coordination from the Ministry of Security, difficulties obtaining permission from the Ministry of Culture to remodel the Plaza de las Garantías Sociales, and a lack of cooperation regarding the Avenida Segunda plan.

Miranda also challenged the President to a recorded meeting to address these issues and accused government officials of seeking private meetings to discuss his ongoing disciplinary proceedings. The President previously declined a personal meeting with Miranda, citing concerns over undue pressure related to a legal recusal process involving 17 municipal council members.

In response to previous requests from the Mayor regarding the participation of state-owned enterprises in the Festival de la Luz, President Fernández clarified that autonomous public companies make their own decisions regarding sponsorships and do not consult her on such matters.
