Latin American regions intensify dengue prevention and control
Various regions in Latin America are implementing diverse strategies to combat the spread of dengue and other arboviruses.
In Peru, authorities are shifting toward long-term prevention through a national partnership to implement the Wolbachia method. In Lima, the district of San Juan de Lurigancho has reported a high concentration of cases, with 1,095 infections noted in the Lima Centro jurisdiction.
In Mexico, several states are intensifying preventive measures. Guanajuato has protected over 2.6 million people through large-scale nebulization and indoor spraying. Yucatán is maintaining active surveillance and mosquito control, including the use of Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes, despite a reported 87.8% decrease in cases compared to the previous year. In Morelos, officials are coordinating with neighboring states to manage epidemiological risks, noting that the state currently holds one of the lower dengue indices in the country. Meanwhile, in Coahuila, local authorities in Frontera are ramping up vigilance ahead of historically high-risk months to prevent outbreaks.
