San Juan del Río launches street rehab and new housing unit for vulnerable families

In early July 2026, the municipality of San Juan del Río, Querétaro, began a street rehabilitation project in the La Llave community. Mayor Roberto Cabrera Valencia and Public Works Secretary Edith Álvarez Flores inaugurated work on the 475‑metre stretch of Hacienda de Torrecillas, funded with 3,489,508.81 pesos from the municipal infrastructure fund. The upgrade includes drainage pipes, hydraulic lines, paved surfaces, sidewalks and signage and is slated for completion on 30 September 2026, directly benefiting about 250 local residents.

The same week, the State Institute of Housing (IVEQ) delivered a newly built, fully equipped room with bathroom to a family in the Santa Cruz Escandón community. Governor Mauricio Kuri González attended the hand‑over, which is part of the Programme for Housing for Persons in a State of Vulnerability. Under the programme, the state finances construction while beneficiaries provide land, contributing to roughly 500 housing actions carried out across Querétaro’s 18 municipalities in 2025. The delivery underscores the state’s effort to improve living conditions for vulnerable households.
