San Juan expands technical mining training with female-led enrollment
In San Juan, Argentina, more than 600 students are enrolled in university technical programs across six departments, including Calingasta, Iglesia, Jáchal, Ullum, Sarmiento, and Valle Fértil. These programs, funded by mining development resources, are primarily led by women, who make up over 400 of the total enrollment compared to 263 men.
The educational initiative is a collaboration between the San Juan Ministry of Mining and the Ministry of Education, involving the Universidad Católica de Cuyo (UCCuyo) and the Universidad Nacional de San Juan (UNSJ). Available courses include Business Administration, Software Development, Digital Marketing, and Environmental Security through UCCuyo, while UNSJ provides training in Mine Operations, Mineral Processing, Heavy Machinery Maintenance, and the Food Industry.
Additionally, in the Iglesia department, the Ministry of Education partnered with the mining company Fortescue to provide specialized training for 106 community members and students. These sessions covered 4x4 integral mechanics for mining fleets, the installation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic systems, and content production workshops.
