San Juan mining sector industrial and educational expansion

Overview

In San Juan, Argentina, educational and industrial initiatives are being implemented to support the regional mining sector. Technical training programs, funded by mining development resources, have enrolled over 600 students across various departments. These programs, a collaboration between the provincial ministries of mining and education alongside local universities, show a significant female presence, with women accounting for over 400 of the total enrollment.

Specific training includes mine operations, mineral processing, and heavy machinery maintenance, as well as specialized workshops in solar photovoltaic systems and mechanics provided through partnerships with companies like Fortescue.

Building on this educational foundation, industrial leaders are working to integrate local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into the mining value chain. Through initiatives like the Emprezar event, the Unión Industrial de San Juan is focusing on capacity building and technical training to ensure local businesses can meet the high service standards required by upcoming large-scale mining operations.
