San Juan police officer shot by colleague in station
Mariana Sol Jofré, a 29-year-old San Juan police officer who is six months pregnant, has been discharged from the hospital following a shooting incident at the La Bebida police station in Rivadavia.
The incident occurred on a Monday while Jofré was performing administrative duties. Her colleague, Cristian Exequiel Albarracín, was handling his service weapon nearby when a shot was fired, striking Jofré in the back. Investigators are exploring a hypothesis that the discharge was accidental; it is believed Albarracín had previously lent his weapon to another officer, identified as Castro, for a pursuit, and the weapon was returned loaded without Albarracín's knowledge.
Jofré underwent surgery at Sanatorio CIMYN to remove the bullet and has since recovered favorably. Medical professionals confirmed that both the officer and her unborn child are in good health. Albarracín has been formally charged, and the judiciary has established an eight-month period to investigate the circumstances of the discharge. He remains free while the legal process continues.
