San Juan Province launches tech centers for youth in mining districts

San Juan province in Argentina has launched a network of Technological Centers in five mining departments—Calingasta, Iglesia, Jáchal, Ullum and Valle Fértil. The program, coordinated by the ministries of Mining, Education and Production through the Centre for Knowledge Economy and Innovation, opens registration and begins classes on 4 July 2025.

The three‑month initiative targets young people aged 9‑18, offering robotics, programming and automation workshops in hybrid classrooms. Sessions run on Saturdays, with two age groups: 9‑11 years (9:30‑11:00) and 12‑18 years (11:00‑12:30). The curriculum links technical skills to the province’s mining, energy and agro‑industrial sectors, building on the earlier Verano Tech project.

The effort aims to develop a skilled workforce aligned with the province’s knowledge‑based economy, providing early‑stage technical training in remote areas through equipped hybrid classrooms.
