San Luis Potosí Congress Repeals State AI Law

On Thursday the State Congress of San Luis Potosí approved the repeal of the region’s artificial‑intelligence law. The plenary session was moved from its scheduled 10:00 a.m. start to 8:30 a.m., with only a 15‑minute notice to the media. President of the congressional Directive, Sara Rocha Medina, said the change was due to deputies already being present and denied any intent to limit press coverage, though access to the chamber remained tightly controlled.

Earlier, the First Justice Commission unanimously approved a proposal to repeal Decree 0314, which had added several articles to the state Penal Code concerning the misuse of artificial intelligence. The initiative, backed by Governor José Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, Deputy Jessica Gabriela López Torres, and civil society, will be debated in an extraordinary plenary session. The commission stressed that the repeal does not stop the Congress from developing a comprehensive AI regulatory framework through an open‑parliament process involving academia, specialists, public agencies, NGOs, and the private sector.
