Governor Ricardo Gallardo advances major highway projects and expands social aid in San Luis Potosí
Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona reported that the San Luis–Matehuala highway is 55 % complete and is part of eight road projects in San Luis Potosí with total investment exceeding 250 million pesos. The connection to Querétaro is slated for completion by the end of 2027. A larger corridor comprising the San Luis–Matehuala (118.4 km, >20 billion pesos) and San Luis–Querétaro highways aims to cut travel times by up to 30 minutes, relieve Federal Highway 57 and boost logistics for the state’s industrial zone. The governor also announced new bridge works, including the Puente de la Familia and the upcoming Villa Magna bridge.
In July, three members of the State Civil Guard were killed in an attack in La Pila. Gallardo said four arrest warrants have been issued for suspects from outside the state, one suspect has been captured, and he has requested 400 additional federal security personnel to protect the state’s borders, coordinating with federal security secretary Omar García Harfuch.
Gallardo also expanded social programmes, extending benefits to more than 110,000 families in the capital and 24,000 families in Villa de Pozos, with ongoing coordination across all 59 municipalities. Senator Ruth González Silva visited colonias in the capital to hear residents’ concerns about water, drainage, roads and security, and pledged to liaise with the state government on their requests.
