San Luis Potosí Governor Ricardo Gallardo Expands Women in Cabinet and Reports Sharp Crime Drop

Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona of San Luis Potosí announced a policy to close his administration with about 80% of cabinet posts held by women. He defended recent appointments, including Nadia Ochoa as head of the State Civil Protection coordination and a new secretary of education, arguing that competence is not determined by professional background and emphasizing the need for generational renewal and female leadership in strategic government areas.

A study by the NGO México Evalúa found that the governor's comprehensive security strategy produced an 81% decline in intentional homicides, a 77% drop in missing persons, a 49% reduction in femicides and a 19‑point decrease in culpable homicides during the first four months of 2026. San Luis Potosí posted the lowest lethal‑violence rates in Mexico, second only to Yucatán, attributing the results to reinforced state civil guard, expanded video surveillance, security arches, modern police equipment, coordination with federal forces and social programs for youth.
