San Luis Potosí launches free electric RedMetro transport system

Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona has launched the RedMetro Riviera Huasteca, a new public transportation system in San Luis Potosí that offers 100 percent free service. The route spans approximately 100 kilometers, connecting Ciudad Valles with Tamazunchale.

The service will initially operate with 50 modern, sustainable electric propulsion units. The estimated travel time for the route is two hours and 35 minutes. The network provides coverage across 10 municipalities, including Ciudad Valles, Aquismón, Axtla de Terrazas, Coxcatlán, Huehuetlán, Matlapa, Tamazunchale, Tancanhuitz, Tanlajás, and Xilitla.

By connecting strategic locations such as the General Hospital, the Intercultural University, and various commercial and tourist areas, the system aims to improve access to healthcare, education, employment, and commerce for both urban and rural communities. The use of electric vehicles is intended to reduce the environmental impact of public transit in the region.
