San Luis Potosí legislators propose reforms to child support enforcement

Legislators in San Luis Potosí are proposing reforms to strengthen the enforcement of child support obligations. One initiative, presented by Deputy Gabriela Guadalupe Martínez Vázquez, seeks to amend the State Family Code to make the State Registry of Delinquent Child Support Debtors publicly accessible via a free digital platform. This registry would allow anyone to consult the names of debtors without needing to prove a legal interest, aiming to protect the rights of children through increased transparency.

In a separate proposal, Deputy María Dolores Robles Chairez has introduced a reform to the State Penal Code to penalize those who deliberately evade support payments. The reform targets individuals who intentionally place themselves in a state of insolvency to avoid obligations, such as through voluntary resignation from employment or requesting unpaid leaves of absence. Additionally, the proposal seeks to sanction third parties who assist debtors by acting as apparent owners of assets to hide wealth from judicial authorities.
