San Luis Potosí municipal resource audits

Authorities in San Luis Potosí have launched comprehensive audits of federalized resources across the state's 59 municipalities. Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona emphasized a policy of accountability, stating that “every public peso must be verified, made transparent, and subjected to review.”

The effort is being coordinated through an agreement between the Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) and the Instituto de Fiscalización Superior del Estado (IFSE). Auditors intend to focus on preventing the diversion of public funds for electoral purposes during the upcoming 2026-2027 election cycle by examining government purchases, public works contracts, and payrolls.

Recent developments show the IFSE has issued a deadline for all 59 municipalities to certify the salary standardization of their municipal police forces. Under local mandates, officers must receive a minimum net monthly salary of 14,000 pesos; failure to comply may result in sanctions ranging from reprimands to disqualification from office.

Furthermore, cross-referencing data with civil and tax registries has uncovered significant payroll irregularities. The ASF and IFSE identified instances of deceased individuals remaining on payrolls, improper hiring practices, and the presence of “aviadores”—individuals appearing on multiple, incompatible payrolls. While the capital city has recorded the highest number of observations due to its budget size, officials noted that irregularities are present across all municipalities.
