San Luis Potosí manages infrastructure vandalism and public works delays

San Luis Potosí is addressing several infrastructure challenges involving vandalism, delayed public works, and water treatment rehabilitation.

Municipal Services reported a surge in vandalism against public infrastructure, specifically targeting electrical cabling. Recent incidents have affected lighting systems in areas such as Venustiano Carranza, Cordillera Real, San Sebastián, and the Alameda Juan Sarabia. Officials noted that these deliberate acts often disrupt newly inaugurated or rehabilitated facilities.

In terms of urban development, Mayor Enrique Galindo Cevallos announced that the bidding processes for three major projects—the El Saucito project, the Villa Magna bridge, and the Guadalajara exit underpass—have been cleared following delays with the Comptroller's office. Due to the required 45-day bidding period, construction is expected to begin in October.

Additionally, the State Water Commission (CEA) is working to rehabilitate the Escalerillas wastewater treatment plant. To access federal PROAGUA 2026 funds, the municipal government must provide legal documentation proving ownership of the land where the plant and pumping stations are located. This project involves collaboration between the state and federal governments to improve sanitation in the Escalerillas area.
