San Luis Potosí urban infrastructure development
Overview
The state government of San Luis Potosí is implementing several infrastructure projects to modernize urban transit and improve traffic flow.
In late July, work progressed on the Arena Potosí grade-separated underpass. This approximately 1 km long road structure is designed to accelerate vehicle movement in the south-central area of the city while incorporating a natural rainwater drainage system to mitigate flood risks. Seduvop head Isabel Leticia Vargas Tinajero stated that the project adheres to technical and safety standards.
By mid-August, construction commenced on the Jacobo Payán Latuff Avenue vehicular overpass. This 500-meter project, spanning the neighborhoods of Españita, Esmeralda, and San Luis Rey, aims to connect the avenue with the northern lateral of Salvador Nava Martínez Boulevard. The infrastructure will feature two ramps to resolve bottlenecks between the capital’s eastern side and the industrial zone, potentially reducing commute times from 25 minutes to approximately two minutes. While the official contractual period is eight months, the construction company aims to complete the work in roughly half that time.
In late August, Mayor Enrique Galindo Ceballos announced that bidding processes for three additional major projects—the El Saucito project, the Villa Magna bridge, and the Guadalajara exit underpass—have been cleared following administrative delays. Construction for these is expected to begin in October following a 45-day bidding period. Simultaneously, the city is addressing a surge in vandalism targeting electrical cabling in several neighborhoods, which has disrupted lighting systems in newly rehabilitated facilities.
