San Luis Potosí pushes new southern alternate highway and expands bus routes

The state government of San Luis Potosí, led by Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, is advancing the Vía Alterna Sur project. The new southern alternate road will extend to connect with Highway 80, linking industrial parks such as WTC, Logistik I and Logistik II, and will also join Highway 37 toward Villa de Reyes and a forthcoming highway to Querétaro. Officials say the corridor will improve freight movement, commuter travel and the region’s competitiveness as an industrial hub.

Separately, the Federal Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Araceli Martínez Acosta, announced plans to broaden public‑transport routes in the state. Using data gathered by citizen mobility committees, the SCT intends to add suburban lines in Cerro de San Pedro, extend service hours on the Red Metro to 10:10 p.m., and conduct mobility studies in the municipalities of San Luis Potosí, Soledad de Graciano Sánchez and Villa de Pozos. Results will guide a call for new transport permits expected by the end of the year, aiming to increase coverage for workers and residents.
