San Marcos University honors Pope Leo XIV ahead of Peru visit

The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) held a cultural tribute to Pope Leo XIV in anticipation of his upcoming visit to Peru, scheduled from November 11 to 16. The event took place at the historic Casona de San Marcos, where the university choir performed the pontiff’s official hymn, ‘León, hermano del camino’.

UNMSM Rector Jeri Ramón Ruffner de Vega emphasized the significance of the papal visit. The university choir, which is celebrating its 72nd anniversary, expressed interest in participating in public events during the Pope's stay. The tribute also featured traditional folk dances.

The activity was part of a broader promotional effort by the Instituto Nacional de Radio y Televisión del Perú (IRTP) to disseminate the official hymn. Media representatives noted that the IRTP will provide free coverage of the visit to both national and international media outlets.
