San Marino proposes public fund for adaptive sports equipment

In San Marino, the organization Attiva-Mente has proposed a new Istanza d’Arengo to establish a permanent public fund for sports equipment for people with disabilities. The fund aims to cover the high costs associated with purchasing, adapting, and maintaining specialized gear such as sports wheelchairs, handbikes, prosthetics, and adaptive aquatic aids.

The proposal seeks an annual budget to support not only competitive athletes but also recreational, school, and amateur activities. The fund would be accessible to individuals, sports associations, and schools, with a focus on transparent procedures and the potential for equipment loan and reuse systems. Attiva-Mente emphasizes the principle of “nothing about us without us,” requesting that people with disabilities be directly involved in defining the fund's regulations.
